Matt Harlock

Award-winning director Matt Harlock’s films have premiered at London Film festival and SXSW, and have been shown on Channel 4, Film4, HBO, Sky and VICE. His latest short film Deep Clean starring Paul Kaye and created with Krent Able, will be showing at Frightfest, London Short Film Festival, Aesthetica, SF Indie Fest, Celluloid Screams. He is developing genre features for the international market.

His first feature film, ‘American The Bill Hicks Story’ played over 40 international festivals, was the 2nd most successful documentary released in UK cinemas in 2010 and is 6th on the iTunes Docs Bestsellers chart. It was Grierson-nominated and won several Best Documentary awards (Dallas, Little Rock, Downtown LA, Biografilm Bologna)

His short films have been shown widely at festivals and on TV. In 2017, his festival hit Ink, Cocks & Rock’n’Roll about controversial comic artist Krent Able picked up 5 Best Film/Director nominations and premiered on VICE. It has played London SFF, Dublin International, LOCO, won Shooting People’s Film of the Month, won Best Film at Sochi and was nominated for Best Director at Fastnet, On Vous Ment and Raindance.

Matt’s drama short films have been shown on VICE, Channel 4, Film4, HBO and Sky, winning awards from Manhattan SFF, TCM & Film London. Lollipop was commissioned by Channel 4, Toll was bought by Film 4 & HBO and was shown at over 30 festivals and supported by the British Council. The Clouds won the National 48 Hour Film Challenge.

He was a Berlin Talent in 2014 and is the founder of No Direction Home, the Soho director’s community, now based at The Hospital Club.
