James Mansell

James Mansell is a British director, writer and producer of film, television, music videos and branded content.

His work is available to watch on DUST, CryptTV, Amazon Prime Video, Samsung TV Plus and Film Shortage among others, screened globally at festivals such as Popcorn Frights Film Festival and The British Horror Film Festival and has won numerous awards including a Webby Award and a Discover Film Award.

His tech-horror short film NIGHTMARES (streaming on CryptTV) screened at over 50 film festivals around the world and won multiple awards including Best Horror Short at the Discover Film Awards.

James’ sci-fi horror short film RUPTURED (streaming on Gunpowder & Sky’s sci-fi platform DUST) won three awards at The People’s Film Festival ‘19 including Best Sci-Fi Short Film.

He worked with UK metal band Evile on their music video promos for Hell Unleashed and Gore (ft. Brian Posehn) from the album Hell Unleashed, released through Napalm Records.

James’ work for international brands includes Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan, HSBC, Pfizer, Levi’s, Shell, Safari Guide Experts and the BBC, in which his contribution to the web series BBC Ideas: Thinkers from the past on our world today helped it to win a People’s Choice Award at the Creativepool Annual 2020 Awards and the Public Service & Activism Award at the Webby Awards in 2019.

In addition to filmmaking, James is a mentor and ambassador for The Creative Mentor Network, has written for Little Black Book and Raindance and was on the Jury for The People’s Film Festival in 2022. His science-ficion short story HIS BODY BENEATH is available on the reading platform Wattpad.

Beginning his career in the camera department, James worked on UK broadcast television for the likes of Channel 4, MTV, Sky and the BBC as a camera assistant and operator, as well as an assistant director and location assistant.
