Colin West

Colin West is an award-winning writer & director originally from an eerily average cul-de-sac in the suburban Midwest and is now based in Los Angeles.

His films, known for their distinctive voice in the grounded sci-fi genre, include his most recent, HERE & BEYOND, that is presently on the international festival circuit and has won Best Actor, Best Short Script, and Best Art Direction and has screened at Fantasia, Calgary Film Festival, and Cinequest, among others. His previous sci-fi short film WE WERE NOT MADE FOR THIS WORLD, adapted from Eisner Award-winning cartoonist Paul Hornschemeier’s comic of the same name, was shown internationally at film festivals and was awarded a Vimeo Staff Pick. His short film THE LONG SLOW FLIGHT OF THE ASHBOT, a science fiction short adapted from Ignatz Award-winning cartoonist Joel Priddy, won the Best Sci-Fi Film at the Berlin Short Film Festival and his short film PINK PLASTIC FLAMINGOS is set to premiere soon on Gunpowder & Sky’s DUST Sci-Fi Channel.

He previously worked as Multimedia Producer for MacArthur Genius Award-winning visual artist Ann Hamilton, then a Producer for CBS Broadcasting (CNET), and also in Feature/TV production for Hulu and ABC. He also recently produced SURVIVAL SKILLS, the Stacy Keach and Vayu O’Donnell lead feature film sponsored by MovieMaker Magazine and Film Independent and recently wrapped a children’s science television pilot called THE LIL NEURO SHOW featuring Noam Chompsky, Slavoj Žižek, and Deepak Chopra, among many other influential philosophers, scientists, and thinkers. His films have screened at festivals including Fantasia, Cinequest, Calgary Film Festival, The Chicago Underground Film Festival, Athens Film Festival, Boston Sci Fi Film Festival, Berlin Short Film Festival, New Filmmakers LA, Midwest Weirdfest, Other Worlds, and Fantastic Planet, among many others, and have been featured on Billboard. com, io9.com, GeekTyrant.com, LaughingSquid.com, FilmShortage.com, and CNET.com. He was an Annenberg Graduate MFA Fellow at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts where he concurrently interned in Film & TV Development for Matt Reeve’s (Director: Cloverfield, War for the Planet of the Apes, The Batman) company, 6th & Idaho, in association with 20th Century Fox + Netflix.
